Dance-A-Thon sponsored by BCHS 4 Kids. Open to 5-8 Graders Too!

BCHS Dance-A-Thon, a long-standing, student-run tradition at Bishop Chatard, raises money and awareness for Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital. This year’s theme is ‘Magic Awaits!’.

This year, BCHS is opening the 2024 event to all 5th-8th grade North Deanery children who are interested in spending time with high schoolers, learning a dance, and participating in other fun activities. Classes will partner together to learn the dance and participate in other fun activities (12th with 5th, 11th with 6th, 10th with 7th, 9th with 8th) .

The Dance Marathon will be held March 8, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in BCHS main gym.
The cost of entry is $25, which includes a t-shirt.
Pizza and snacks will be served at the event.
Two Area 2 Service Hours for BCHS participants.
The proceeds from this cost and any other donations will be given directly to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

Prayer Partners

All BCHS students received a wristband to remind them of the ‘why’ of the event. They are encouraged to pray each day for their Prayer Partner, a child that Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital has helped. View their stories below.

Tony is an 11-year-old patient of Dr. Daniel McKenney, a pediatric nephrologist, and has been seen by Dr. McKenney since he was 3 years old and diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, which causes his kidneys to not function properly.

Tony is an active young man who plays football, basketball and wrestles. He in monitored at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

Tony’s prayer partner is the BCHS Class of 2024.

Quincy was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October 2021 at the age of 7. He had been having leg pain for a couple of months and first noticed it while he was playing baseball. Quincy moved through two years of treatment with only a few bumps along the way and was finally able to cross the finish line on Dec. 29, 2023.

The family has fully put its trust in God for this journey. The Sunday before they received Quincy’s diagnosis, he passed his mom a note in church. It read “God’s glory is the best.” Quincy is a strong young man of faith and frequently will ask his family to stop and pray when he hears of a need. They believe that God uses everything for the good of those who believe in Him.

Quincy is back to all of his favorite activities. He loves sports, especially basketball. He is also looking forward to trying out football this year once his port is removed! He is the youngest of four siblings who are also all active in sports. He has an 18-year-old brother, a 15-year-old sister, and a 13-year-old brother.

Quincy is extremely quick-witted and utilizes humor to deal with many of his challenges. The family has learned just how precious life is. They have been reminded not to sweat the small stuff and to see God’s goodness in so many ways!

Quincy’s prayer partner is the BCHS Class of 2025.

In 2021, while 7 months pregnant and battling COVID-19, Misty Monson was placed on a ventilator and became so ill that she was put on ECMO, a life-saving machine, which acts as both the heart and lungs.

As her condition worsened, to save both Misty and her baby, doctors performed an emergency cesarean section to deliver baby Chase at 31 weeks gestation. Chase spent 3 months in the neonatal intensive care unit at Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital.

Today, Chase is a healthy and happy 2-1⁄2 year old who loves to eat pizza, play with bubbles, explore and play with his brother, Blake and sister Annabelle. Chase is a mama’s boy.

Chase’s prayer partner is the BCHS Class of 2026.

Lakelynn was identified as having gastroschisis, a birth defect where a hole in the abdominal wall allows the intestines to extend outside of the body, on a routine ultrasound when her mom was approximately 16 weeks pregnant.

Lakelynn was born very prematurely, at 28 weeks (a full term pregnancy is typically 40 weeks), at Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital. Not only were Lakelynn’s intestines outside of her body but her stomach was as well so she was immediately taken to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, where she was intubated and doctors began the necessary measures to move her organs into Lakelynn’s body. This process involved wrapping the intestines and stomach externally and slowly pushing them into her stomach over approximately 7 days. Lakelynn experienced several complications during the course of the over 2 months she spent in the NICU before finally being released home on July 3, 2023.

During her hospital stay, Lakelynn had a PIC line placed in her head to provide nutrition intravenously and had to be taught how to take food by mouth – a skill she is still working on perfecting. Lakelynn underwent another surgery a few months ago to fix a hernia and insert a G-tube, allowing her to receive nutrition directly into her stomach, while still working on taking food by mouth.

Lakelynn spends a lot of time at doctor and therapy appointments and sees several Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital care team members including a dietician, gastrointestinal specialist, and speech/physical/occupational therapists. Her long-term prognosis is excellent, which is a miracle considering the rough start she had in life.

Lakelynn loves to have her feet played with, is obsessed with her daddy’s hair and tries to put everything in her mouth. “Boo Boo” as she is known by her friends, family, and physicians is very loved by both her mom and dad and everyone who meets her.
