A financial aid officer will be available to assist parents in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Summer Field Study in Arizona for Jrs & Srs.: Parent Meeting, Oct. 27
Bishop Chatard juniors and seniors are invited to join Roncalli High School in an incredible summer trip where we will experience the wonders of God's creation at the Grand Canyon in Arizona along with the majestic San Juan Mountains of Colorado.
Summer Field Study is a class that is offered for academic credit through Roncalli's Physical Education department. Parents who would like more information about this trip are encouraged to attend a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in room 104.

Club Volleyball opportunity for Grades 6-8
Club Volleyball registration is open to those interested in Bishop Chatard High School under direction of past Chatard coach Jill Starliper. Registration is due Dec. 3rd. Fundamentals will be emphasized, but our goal is to also teach these young players to understand the game of volleyball and the skills involved in building a team that works together.

Winter Uniform Code takes effect Nov. 2
Bishop Chatard's Winter Uniform Code will take effect Monday, Nov. 2. After that date, no shorts will be allowed for underclassmen. As part of their senior privileges, seniors may continue to wear shorts. Please remember, hooded sweatshirts are not an approved part of the BCHS uniform code.

The Indiana Dept. of Education has announced that during
'College Go!' week from October 12 to 16, application fees are being waived in an effort to encourage all Indiana high school seniors to take the important steps necessary to complete the college application process. Students taking advantage of this opportunity are encouraged to submit applications online to ensure timely delivery to the college(s) of their choice.

El Salvador Spring Break Mission Trip
Over spring break, 9 students and 3 adults traveled to El
Salvador, during which the Bishop Chatard community formed a solid relationship with the Tamarindo community located in Guirjila, El Salvador.
The group spent time with host families, getting to know Salvadoran people ages 2 to 65, attending a
World Cup soccer match (USA vs. El Salvador), visiting martyr sites of
Maryknoll sisters, Jesuit priests, and Archbishop Romero, and eating
pupusas, a native food. Time for silent prayer and relaxation was also had.
This memorable experience will hopefully lead to a tradition of spring break trips to El Salvador to reunite the Bishop Chatard community with the Tamarindo community and a consistent opportunity to deepen one's faith in Jesus Christ.

State Runner-up 3200M Relay Squad receive their rings
The track coaches presented the girls 3200M relay team with their state runner-up rings at the BCHS football game on Aug. 21. This team finished runner-up in sectionals, won handily at the regionals, and then were runners-up at the 2009 State Meet. In the process, the girls crushed the school record for this event! Join us for dedication of new sports field
On Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11:00am, Indy Parks will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Riverwood Park (7301 Crittenden Ave.) to dedicate the new park and sports field facility. A partnership between Indy Parks and BCHS has enabled the fields at Riverwood to become the practice and home fields for BCHS boys and girls soccer and lacrosse teams! The goal is to have the fields ready for competition play by next spring!

Snowsports Club
will hold their first meeting of the year during Activity Period on Wed, Sept 16, in the cafeteria. The club will be going to Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, IN, near Cincinati. Students interested in skiing, snowboarding, or blading should plan to attend. Students who would like to try a snowsport for the first time should come to the meeting as well. Possible dates and prices for this winter's ski trips will be discussed. Last year, tickets with equipment rental and a lesson were $45 per trip for the club. Mr. Dodge is the club sponsor.

BCHS is proud to announce that several members of the Class of 2012 received perfect scores on the End-of-Course Assessments (ECA) that were given last May.

When logging on to MyMealtime.com to access your child's Mealtime account or to add money to it, you will need to use your student's school-issued ID number. It is different from the PIN number used by your student at lunch to access his/her account.
A tip: Students may bring cash or a check with them to lunch and deposit money directly into their accounts at the cashier station. This is as quick as paying for lunch and it will save the small service fee charged when depositing online!

The Bishop Chatard Ladies Bowling League
is gearing up for another fun-filled year, and the group is welcoming new members. The group bowls on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 AM
at Woodland Bowl at 96th and Keystone. Bowlers of all skill levels are welcome to join, and room exists for mothers to set up playpens for children.
A small fee is charged for weekly bowling, and all proceeds are donated to Bishop Chatard. The group enjoys several special events each year, including the annual Christmas lunch hosted by the high school. The Booster Club started the year with a successful Big Blue Booster Bash
About 300 people attended with food, fun and socializing and a great time for all. The Grand Raffle Prize of $2500 was split by two Chatard Boosters. The Booster Club was able to earn over $6000, all of which will be used to directly support athletic endeavors at BCHS. Thanks again to all who generously participated...it was a fabulous way to kick off a new year of Trojan Spirit!

Hemophilia Walk needs Volunteers
Volunteers are needed on Sat. Sept. 19, at Ft. Benjamin Harrison St. Park to help with the walk. Help is needed at the Kids Zone, sponsor tents, sack lunche area, parking and to just cheer on the walkers. Further details can be found at the "Service Needs" link above (by the cross).

A Promise To Keep is in need of adult volunteers
to help train our student mentors. Adult mentors would be responsible for meeting with one or more groups of students for about an hour a week for three weeks this fall. The schedule and level of commitment is very flexible, and all volunteers will be trained in mentoring their student groups. Medication Policy
Students who need to take any medication while at school must turn in their medication to Merianne Pacheco in the BCHS principal's office. All medication must be in its original container accompanied by a note from the parent. This applies to both over-the-counter and prescription medication.
If your child takes prescription medication, a Medication Permission Form must be signed by the parent and doctor and be faxed back to the principal's office at 317-251-3648. (This form is required for prescription medication only.) Please have your child bring the medication to the principal's office, and Merianne will provide the form. If you have questions, contact Merianne at 251-1451, ext. 2248, or e-mail mpacheco@bishopchatard.org.

MyMealtime.com makes lunchtime easy
A note about access numbers for the Mealtime program: When logging on to access your child's Mealtime account or to add money to it, you need to use your student's school-issued ID number. Your student should be able to give you this number. It is different from the PIN number used by your student at lunch to access his/her account. For more information about Mealtime, visit

Trojan Tots Preschool and Child Care Ministry enrolling now
The Bishop Chatard 'Trojan Tots' Preschool and Child Care Ministry is now enrolling for the 2009-2010 school year. This ministry, created in 2008 to serve employees of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis North Deanery, will expand its outreach and be available to parishioners of the North Deanery this year.
Located in the St. Benedict Center on the BCHS campus, the center accommodates newborns to 5-year-olds. Operating on a school year calendar, Trojan Tots will open for the 2009-2010 school year on Aug. 10, and hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Volunteers needed for stage clean up day
The Drama Boosters will be working on Saturday, Aug. 8, to clear and clean the BCHS stage and stage storage areas in preparation for the school year. Many hands make light work! Police Provide Parking Reminders
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has provided the
following neighborhood parking recommendations. BCHS students are asked
to adhere to the following when parking on city streets (Call Officer Bruce Allee, Unit #A145, 327-6100 with questions):

Do not block any private driveways.

You must park your car facing the same direction as the traffic
flow of your lane of travel.

All cars must be well off the roadway and parked parallel to the
street.

You must park 12 feet away from fire hydrants and cannot park in
any manner that might obstruct an intersection.

Do not park in anyone's yard or side-yard.
-
Do not park in a manner that will block another car from moving.

Recycle your printer cartridges and cell phones and help Boys Lacrosse
Go green with the BCHS Boys Lacrosse Team! Turn in your old printer
cartridges and cell phones in the St. Benedict Center administrative
hallway. The Boys LAX team will recycle them, and funds will be used to
help pay the team's expenses.

Boys Fall Indoor Lacrossse league
is forming . The league is run by Off the Wall Sports, Carmel, and games are held on Thurs evenings. (No practices). BCHS would like to
form two or three teams made up of current and potential Trojan boys lacrosse players. BCHS holds the winter indoor league championship titl e for two consecutive years, and the program is looking to capture the f all title in 2009! The 2009 Yearbook has arrived!
Members of the Class of 2009: If you haven't picked up your yearbook, stop by on Aug. 12 or after at the Bishop Chatard journalism classroom, Room 210. If a '09 grad is not able to pick up his/her yearbook at that time, another classmate or parent may do so.
All current sophomores, juniors and seniors will receive their 2009 Citadel at orientation on Aug. 12.

Girls Track members place in State Finals

Congratulations to the girls 3200M relay team as they placed
2ND in the STATE!
The team consisted of Maggie Bell, Mary Davis, Emily Boyce and Christine Kirby.

They also smashed the old school record by 7 seconds.
Congratulations also to Pole Vaulter, Alex Metzger who placed
3rd in the STATE and tied her own school record! Well done, Lady Trojans!
