Relay For Life

Student and adult volunteers are invited to assist in this year's Relay for Life, to take place at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired on Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23. Relay for Life, a twenty-four hour team relay, benefits the American Cancer Society. In addition to participating in the relay, volunteer opportunities include serving on a committee for team recruitment and working the day of the relay by helping with setup, directing parking, and the like. KIPP Indianapolis College preparatory is a charter middle school working with minority students in Marion County and they are looking for enthusiastic, patient, and open-minded tutors for students struggling with core subjects. Each tutor session will be one hour long after school or on Saturday. If you have more questions, or you would like to volunteer please contact the above.

School on Wheels

School on Wheels, the city's first and only program providing tutoring services in the city's homeless shelters, is an experience that truly makes a difference in the lives of children and should positively impact your life as well.

Volunteers are expected to tutor 1 hour/week. We have tutoring opportunities Mon -Thurs from 4:00-8:00 PM. At the training/orientation sessions, we will be discussing homelessness in Indianapolis as well as what it means to be a School on Wheels tutor. You will receive a Tutor Handbook, needed supplies, and sign up for your tutoring assignment. Whatever your timeframe and/or time commitment is, we will work with you to ensure that your tutoring dates and times fit with your busy schedule.

The St. Vincent De Paul Society is in need of food for their food pantry. Food can be collected and delivered (Or picked up at your home) at any time. Transitional residential living for chemically dependent women. Volunteer opportunities involve helping in the upkeep of the facility including yard work, painting, office help, etc. They are open from 8 to 6 Monday through Thursday, but weekend hours can also be arranged. Teen Court

Peer-sentencing program for juvenile offenders, where the prosecuting attorney, defense counsel, and jury are all young volunteers. Only the judge is an adult, a practicing attorney or actual judge. Teen Court is held one or two evenings a month at seven locations. Call ahead to determine the schedule.

Lucious gathers food from grocery stores, or where ever he can get free food, and distributes it to the needy here in town. Come any Saturday to Anna's House at 303 Elder Street to help distribute food.

Also, be sure and contact your Parish youth ministers and offer your help with local soup kitchens, vacation bible schools, and other Parish programs.
