Girls Lacrosse
Congratulations to 3 girls lacrosse team members. Leslie Cook, Maddie DiSalvo, and Emily Knotts were honored as Academic All-Americans in their sport. Congratulations to Rachel Ward who was recognized by coaches within the state and honored with a 2nd Team All-State award this season for girls lacrosse. Chatard Girls won their sectional playoff game Thurs night against #5 seed Center Grove 14-2. The girls were able to handle the ball well with excellent transition from Courtney Wheelock and Emily Knotts. Rachel Ward and Emily Knotts each scored 3 impressive goals, Emily Moran, Hayley Krause, and Kristin Caccavo each had 2 goals, and Klarisse Ledtke had one. Molly Wert played well with 8 saves though shots were very limited secondary to excellent defense by Leslie Cook, Laura Oldiges, Kathleen Funk and Clare Lintzenich. Chatard girls had an incredible win against HSE Thurs night, winning 12 to 11 in overtime. Chatard girls fought hard for the win with excellent defense led by Leslie Cook and Molly wert had 14 saves. Emily Knotts scored 5 goals, Emily Moran and Courtney Wheelock and Rachel Ward scored 2. Hayley Krause had the game winning goal! Bishop Chatard girls lacrosse beat Covenant Christian last night 17 to 0. Maddie DiSalvo scored 4 goals, Emily Knotts netted 3, Kristin Caccavo, Rachel Ward and Leslie Cook each scored 2 goals and Rachel Strattman, Caitlin Bond Klarisse Ledtke and Hayley Krause had one goal each. Courtney Wheelock was solid at center and all around excellent play to control possession for Chatard. Rachel Ward was selected for the IN/KY girls lacrosse team playing in the US Lacrosse National Tournament! This elite lax tournament features the nations best high school lacrosse players and will play in Baltimore over Memorial Weekend. Julie Jerrell, BCHS gilrs Lacrosse coach, was selected as one of the coaches for the team. Congratulations to both! Girls lacrosse had a fantastic comeback on April 20 against Carmel. Down 9-5 with three minutes left in the game, they were able to score at will, bringing the score to 8-9 but were unable to tie in the last 14 seconds. Molly Wert had 10 saves, including a phenomenal block of an unmarked player in the last minute of play to keep the score close. Rachel Ward had three goals in the second half to start the run, Emily Moran scored 2 goals, Maddie DiSalvo, Meredith Rhodes and Emily Knotts each scored one. The team is looking stronger each game with a progressing midfield transition that will soon be one to envy in the state. Hayley Krause and Rachel Ward had three goals each in the last minute loss to North Central on April 14. The team made an excellent comeback that fell just short in the last minute of the game, though they are showing great offensive skills and improving quickly. Emily Moran had two goals, and Meredith Rhodes scored one. Molly Wert had 5 saves, with one key save in the final seconds of the game. |
