Swimming update: City Meet Results
In swimming, school records were broken as follows: Michael Holland, 100 freestyle (52.01); Mathew Grote, 500 freestyle, (5.28.38). Mary Zimmerman holds two new school diving records: 6 dives, cumulative score: 144.3; and 11 dives, cumulative score: 250.5. Congratulations to these athletes! Jon and Zack partook in a breathtaking swim to the finish where Zack barely edged out Jon in Michael Phelps style, but Jon still shaved 11 seconds off his best time. Michael Holland swam with the grace and beauty of a god. He broke his own record in the 100 free and is in like every final. Matt Davis flew to victory in his heat of the 100 butterfly and did not get hurt! Dylan Foran showed true courage and vigor when he swam without goggles to his best finish ever in the 100 butterfly. Eddy Fisher swam so fast, he looked 10 feet tall instead of the usual 7 feet. Shappe's shaving shot him shimmering through the swell of water in his 100 free. Liam broke out of his cocoon and became a true butterfly in his masterful performance. Matt Grote, one second from the school record, broke his coaches time in the 500 free like it was a 100. It turns out Jay Cougan needs no swim gear to triumph. Jay dropped time while swimming his own style. It also turns out that Jake Staab is more than just a beautiful body, he also uses those muscles to dominate the 50 free. Nathan Meiner made the most of the pool in his 100 backstroke torpedoing his body into the ground, walls, and finish. Stephen Grote awed the crowd by dropping 14 seconds in his 500. He swam so fast, he nearly cured diabetes. Lastly, Blake Moon, senior captain, overcame the fists of power to swim an amazing 100 breaststroke which catapulted him into the finals. Your coaches are so proud of you all and can't wait to see how the rest of the season turns out! Great job to the boys and girls swimming and diving team last night against Lawrence Central and Brebeuf. Pushing through a tough week with upcoming finals, Kathleen Weaver swam her best time in the 100 breaststroke for this season and took first place and Blake Moon keeps dropping time with his 100 breaststroke. This week the team will be preparing for the City Championship Saturday, Dec 20 at the University of Indianapolis. Come out to support the team, meet starts at 9:30am. Though some were sick, and some injured, the girls swimming and diving team swam well at their meet vs Beech Grove and Park Tudor. Sara Hutson braved through the 200 Free Relays despite a goggle malfunction. Laura Oldiges continued the relay with an intense finish. Jessica Cheesman pulled strong throughout her first 100 backstroke and the seasoned Mandy Meiner took 2nd in the backstroke. The biggest excitement came after the meet when we got back to school to look at the record board and realized that Mary Zimmerman broke the school record for her 6 dives last week! Congrats Mary!!! The scores: Beech Grove 132, Park Tudor 116, BCHS 65. The next meet for both the boys and girls will be Thursday, December 4th at Ben Davis. |
