Bishop Chatard CrossCountry Girls win City Title
. . . Katy Achtien.. Cathedral High School senior completed a four-year sweep of City titles Thursday. She covered 5,000 meters in a personal best of 18 minutes, 45.7 seconds on the new cross country course at White River State Park. "I wasn't even expecting to win this one," Achtien said, adding that she wasn't thinking about her streak. She was thinking about two Bishop Chatard girls: Carly Sobolewski, who was third in the state track 3,200 meters, and Mary Davis, a freshman who was seventh at Saturday's Culver Invitational in 18:51.4 .... . . . Sobolewski didn't run because of an injured foot. Without her, Chatard still beat defending champion Cathedral 25-32. If Sobolewski regains her health, the Trojans could rival their run of last year, when they started the postseason unranked and ended up sixth at state. Chatard, ranked 12th, finished eighth at Culver. Supplying a 2-3-4 City finish by Chatard were Davis, junior Christine Kirby and senior Emily Boyce. "We're always joking and saying, 'We're the good team they never heard of,' " Kirby said. In the boys race, juniors Hale O'Herren and J.R. Ricker reversed places from last year, finishing 1-2 to give Cathedral a third successive City title. Excerpt from article by David Wood. Copyright 2008 IndyStar.com. All rights reserved
