Freshmen Volleyball Wins first ever City Championship

Please take a moment to congratulate the members of the freshman volleyball team today as they celebrate winning the first ever city tournament! They had to win three matches this weekend to make it all possible.

The first match was against Cardinal Ritter where they won in two games 25-20, 25-23 with a late second game kill to clinch the match by Kaitlin Carriger. Next, their eyes were on to Scecina where they won in three games 21-25, 25-23, 15-10. Those two wins setup the matchup everyone was waiting for, Chatard versus Cathedral.

The Trojans held the lead in most of game one, but Cathedral caught up and emeged victorious 21-25. Game two caught the ladies down 21-23 where they managed a sideout and brought Annie Bates up to serve. She served 3 straight points including one ace to bring your Trojans to 24-23. Cathedral got a sideout making it one more point to play. On Cathedral's ensueing play, Sarah Heckman managed to block the attack handing the Trojans the game 25-24.

The third game was tied at 11-11 until Elyse Kilbane went back to serve and they never looked back winning 15-11.

If you see Emily King, Emily Nightingale, Kelly Williams, Caitlyn Van Senus, Sarah Heckman, Kaitlin Carriger, Lexi Siegler, Julianne Springer, Heather O'Brien, Elyse Kilbane, Katie Gozdecki, Annie Bates, Mallory Ritman, Caroline Springer, Raven Redding, or our manager Allison Schaffer in the hall today, please thank them for representing Bishop Chatard so well and for contributing a city championship to the history of our school.
