BCHS Girls play Avon
The Lady Trojans teams traveled to Avon last Saturday for the opening games of the season. For the varsity team, after falling behind 20-9 in the first quarter, the Trojans battled back and won each of the remaining quarters, only to fall short, with a final score of 50-46. The team showed balanced scoring lead by Erica Stahl with 10 points and Kourtney Crawford, Rachael Kimack and Katie Shaughnessy each with 9 points. Erica and Kourtney each gathered 8 rebounds. Bishop Chatard lost the game at the free throw line where they were outscored 20-6 by the Orioles. The Lady Trojans JV team lost to Avon 45-21. After a hard fought first half, the Trojans fell short in the second half. Heather O'Brien and Julie Dowling each scored 5 pts., while Lauren Huffine dropped in 4. The Trojans came up with 12 steals as a team, and also out-rebounded the Avon Orioles. The Lady Trojans freshman basketball squad came out from the opening tip with aggressive full-court man-to-man defensive pressure, forcing a total of 37 Avon turnovers for the game. Unfortunately the Lady Trojans were able to convert only four of those turnovers into a field goals, scoring eight points off of turnovers. Avon was able to score only one basket in the second half, but the intense defensive effort resulted in 14 BCHS fouls in the second half and Avon took advantage, hitting 8 of 14 second half free throws to take a 28 to 20 victory over the freshman Lady Trojans. Caroline Springer led the freshmen in scoring with 7 points while Julianne Caroline also led the Lady Trojans in rebounding with five while Annie Dietrick and Julianne Springer added four and three boards respectively. Annie Dietrick and Carolyn Springer recorded six steals apiece while Page Crafton added another four steals. |
